A blog from Merde Girl

Well, welcome back! I have been so busy since the premiere of Merde, that I almost forgot to sit down and blog to you. Okay, I just have to catch you up on what has been happening at Merde. I have been doing some serious traveling! First, the Merde team went to Tulsa to fit some of the talented dancers from Tulsa Ballet and Tulsa Ballet II. I was so jealous of some of their feet! They looked incredible in every shoe they tried on. I think everyone is Tulsa is seriously nice! Then we packed up and the Merde team headed down to Houston Ballet. They were in rehearsal when we arrived, and we got to watch through the window for a few minutes! They can be described in one word: Amazing! The Merde team is out on the road again soon, we are headed off to Alabama Ballet….I am so excited to see all my friends in Birmingham!

Since we last talked, I also made a little trip over to NOLA. WOW! The food, the people, the fun…New Orleans has to be one of the best cities in our country! Some of my friends had the day off from their professional companies, so we all decided to take in the sites and sounds of the Big Easy. I took lots of pictures to share with you in this issue. The people of New Orleans have so many cool traditions and fun ways to throw a party! I want to share a little of their culture with you in case you have never been. With every order from this issue, I am going to include a little lagniappe. First I thought I would send you all a beignet, but decided it was too messy. Powdered sugar would be all over your leotard! Then I thought about a praline, but they are best warm so I decided to mix it up…..well, it will be a little surprise when you open your package. We did so many cool things in New Orleans! We rode steamboats and streetcars, ate fabulous food, hung out with street performers, visited historic places, and meet cool people. We had a fab time at Mardi Gras World where we got to see all to floats they use in the parades. Serendity Masks taught us all about Mardi Gras masks. We saw the Quarter, the French Market, Pirate’s Alley, Canal Street, and so much more! I hope you can see how much fun we had from our pictures.

So can you believe it is already audition season? It is time to start focusing on summer intensive and pro company auditions. I am so nervous and excited at the same time. I thought you might be a little too, so I talked to some experts about some things to make this audition season go a little smoother. Merde Girl always likes to go above and beyond, and I know you do too. This issue is crammed full of ideas that you can use to put a little lagniappe into your audition season. We are going to talk about how to pick the right leotard for your body type, how to do a French twist that will be a little something special, we are going to learn about how a headpiece can really turn up the volume on an ordinary costume, and we are going to talk with the legendary Susanne Ferrell (SQUEAL!!!!!!!!) about audtions and the world of ballet.

Get ready for Merde from New Orleans….
